Social Skills

Expected vs Unexpected Behavior Cards

This printable Expected vs Unexpected Behavior Cards set teaches social awareness with non-judgmental language instead of "good" and "bad." Page 1 is a cover with a quick-start and an explanation of why expected and unexpected works better than good and bad. Page 2 is an ABA-informed teaching guide: how to sort, how to prompt least-to-most, how to reinforce, what to do when the child sorts incorrectly, and a word-for-word five-minute practice script. Page 3 is a two-column sorting mat for laminating and velcro. Pages 4 and 5 give 12 expected and 12 unexpected situation cards, each with the setting, the behavior, and a blank line for the replacement behavior the child names. Page 6 is an eight-session accuracy log with prompt categories so you can see independence grow. Page 7 is a Social Detective Award certificate with goal, session, and reward lines. Printer friendly, lamination friendly, and designed for parents, teachers, RBTs, and BCBAs.
