Calm Corner Kit
This printable Calm Corner Kit gives families, teachers, and ABA teams everything needed to build a calming space that actually teaches self-regulation instead of functioning as a time-out. Page 1 is a cover with a quick how-to and a plain-language explanation of why a calm corner is not a punishment. Page 2 is a parent and team guide covering seven steps: setting the space up during a calm moment, teaching the routine through daily practice, least-to-most prompting, catching early warning signs, immediate specific reinforcement, keeping breaks short and successful, and tracking data to adjust. It also includes do and avoid lists and a supply list. Page 3 is a setup checklist with tick boxes for choosing the spot, making it comfortable, adding the visuals, and launching, plus fillable lines for your family or classroom plan. Page 4 is a laminate-ready "My Calm Corner" rules poster with four simple rules and large icons for child eye level. Page 5 is a nine-option calm-down choice board (deep breaths, squeeze, count, deep pressure, quiet sound, book, drink, rock, ask for help) with large icons and short child-friendly directions. Page 6 is a four-level feelings thermometer that pairs green, yellow, orange, and red with what the behavior looks like and exactly what the adult should do, plus space to record your child's own body signals and best strategies. Page 7 provides 15 cut-out calming strategy cards plus a blank card for a ring or velcro strip. Page 8 has four break request cards ("I need a break", "I need help", "calm corner please", "all done") and a 12-row calm corner log for date, antecedent, level, strategy used, and whether the child returned to the activity, with guidance on how to read the data. Page 9 is a Calm Body Award certificate. Printer friendly, lamination friendly, and designed to be used with dry-erase markers and velcro dots.
